Abstract

Overload is a factor that occurs in caregivers constantly and directly affects their quality of life, physical and mental health. This review an overview of the concept of primary caregiver burden shows especially with older adult patients and at the same time those implications with which it relates shall be defined. The objective of the study was to describe the implications due to overload of the primary caregiver for the elderly. We conducted a document review data such as databases: MedLine, EBSCO, Google Scholar, Scielo, Redalyc and Dialnet. Within the criteria for selecting publications were taken in Spanish, English and Portuguese between 2010 and 2018. Results showed that mostly views implications due to overload are: time limited recreational, medical conditions in physical health and quality of life, depression and anxiety and a problematic family context.
