Abstract

The studies developed about the consumption of alcoholic beverages in young people, is based on the fact that it is at this stage, where the beginning and experiment of the use of various substances is given. Research has shown that the average age of onset is 16 years, however, in recent years this figure has increased for younger ages.

Objective: To know the prevalence of alcoholic beverages consumption in adolescents and the associated factors. Method: Literature review in databases EBSCOhost, Elseiver, Jstor, Proquest, Sage Journals, Scopus, Taylor & Francis, Wiley online library, Scielo, worldwide and limited to the period 2013 and 2018. Results: The current prevalence of alcohol consumption in adolescents is between 30 and 40%. The average age to start consuming alcoholic beverages is 13.41 years. 79.3% of adolescent’s report having taken an alcoholic beverage. The consumption of risk of alcohol is higher among young people in rural areas and the main associated factors are the consumption of figures from the family and school environment. One of the main reasons for consumption is: the social environment, with 50.4%. Conclusions: The problem of alcohol consumption in adolescents has been addressed at the research level and by public policies worldwide and nationally and even regionally, however, the phenomenon continues to occur. There are numerous risk factors and protectors for alcohol consumption mediated by family influence.
