Abstract

Breast self-examination is one of the main tools to detect early and alert about the presence of possible tumors, especially when they are palpable, however, some studies have found flaws in the level of knowledge and practice of breast self-examination in female students. Nursing. Therefore, this article describes the knowledge and practice of breast self-examination in nursing students through the Orem theory, through a bibliographic review of 46 studies published from 2013 to 2018.

The knowledge and practice of breast self-examination in nursing students is regular, because, although they have presented high percentages of knowledge of the disease and its methods of prevention, the practice of self-examination is deficient. There was an absence of directed behaviors in the well-being and self-care of the nursing students, where the self-care and practice of breast self-examination were deficient in the prevention of breast cancer.
