Abstract

Introduction: The family has an important role in the recovery of a member that crosses the pa- tient’s stage and affects their physical-emotional state, when these patients enter the Intensive Care Unit due to chronic non-contagious pathological diseases, traumas and violent causes, it is generated an accompaniment of support staff such as nurses who must ensure the physical and emotional care of patients preparing families to provide the necessary support to the user. Ma- terials and methods: To know the family member’s perception of the care provided by nursing, a study was carried out with patients hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of a private Clinic of the municipality of Florencia in Caquetá, with qualitative interviews to family members of patients who exceed more than five days of stay in the service, attend visits and be older than 18 years. Results: It was highlighted how the nursing professional should recognize a commu- nication process for a well-founded care between the relationship of help and active listening, achieving in this way to generate to the relatives a perception of trust, security in front of the assistance activities.
