Abstract

Patient safety is an issue that has aroused great interest in all countries of the world and their health systems, therefore, research is essential in order to understand the current situation of culture and in safe care procedures. The present article is carried out with the objective of knowing the adherence of the checklist of safe surgery in the surgical area and the level of culture in the safety of the patient by nursing, based on the theory of Patricia Benner. A bibliographic review was made of 50 articles and research projects published between 2013 and 2018. The nursing professional who works in the area of ​​surgery, is faced every time learning situations product of constancy or transformation, thus developing skills and abilities that are carried out through clinical practice. To achieve optimal patient safety, it is essential that the nursing staff be guided by a team effort, promoting good communication, coordination, leadership, quality in the support of their colleagues, and the sharing of information. Strategies to enhance the work of each one, through the acquisition of skills and abilities, which must be put into practice in the treatment, rehabilitation and recovery processes of each individual that presents health alterations.
