Drug interactions between antiretroviral therapy and biologic therapy in patients with HIV disease and rheumatoid arthritis: a narrative literature review

Abstract

The simultaneous presence of human immunodeficiency virus and rheumatoid arthritis in patients poses challenges for public health. From the pharmacological point of view, it is pertinent to observe the interactions between the drugs involved in treating them, little studied so far. This study proposes a narrative review of the medical literature in different databases, with publication filters such as time (1997-2013) and treatment of the central theme. Twenty-two articles with such characteristics were analyzed. The literature reviewed does not report interactions between drugs to treat rheumatoid arthritis and HIV. Studies are still needed to identify such drug-drug interactions.
