Abstract

The paternal participation during labor, is fundamental to strengthen the bond with their children, and generate well-being in women. This project was carried out in a hospital in the city of Tunja; there, the parents are authorized to freely enter the labor of their partner, with only a few restrictions and without prior preparation. Objective: train parents for their participation in the process of birth of their partner, based on the theory of Kristen Swanson. Materials and methods: exploratory study; we approached 10 parent volunteers, who entered the delivery for the first time; and to those who were given guidance and education during the process. To evaluate the intervention format up of 10 items, which shows the actions taken by parents for their support in labor, and a field journal, in which parental behaviors were recorded it was applied. Results: The participation of the parents, their expectations, feelings, abilities, possibilities, experiences and their commitment was explored, articulated with the support of the nurse. Of the 10 participating parents, 9 accompanied and entered the delivery of their partner, evidencing acts and expressions of support and participation with their partner.
