Abstract

Spontaneous pneumothorax (NE) is the presence of air in the pleural cavity without apparent etiology. It is considered primary (NEP) in the absence of underlying lung disease and secondary (NES) when it exists. This is a descriptive study, retrospective case series, in which the clinical and epidemiological of 18 patients with spontaneous pneumothorax and therapeutic management in Sincelejo University Hospital between 2003-2013 features are described. The data were tabulated and processed with Epi Info7 ™. It was found that most were NE side (10 cases - 55.5%). In the NEP, male gender was predominant (38.9%). By contrast the NES, affection more females (33.3%). Epidemiology in the institution varies with respect to the medical literature, prevailing over the NES. In addition, an association between COPD and a history seen in the appearance spontaneous pneumothorax in this study.
