Abstract

Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) infection can cause acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in some patients, which manifests with variable symptoms such as fever, cough, rhinorrhea and respiratory distress. On different occasions, the diagnosis is made by computed tomography of the thorax; in most cases, ground-glass consolidations are observed. Case: 75-year-old man with respiratory symptoms, dyspnea and chest pain. Paraclinical tests showed no signs of severity, but imaging studies reported left pneumothorax, in addition to atypical pneumonia with ground-glass infiltrates. COVID-19 infection is recent and surprises with its imaging manifestations, ranging from multilobar infiltrates to bullae and pleural effusion. Management is conservative, including closed thoracostomy, with subsequent medical improvement and clinical and imaging remission.
